Great Idea, so I have bought 4! Keep having to run the Haf with low tire pressures, so it is quite likely the tire carcass will move in relation to the rim and rip the tubes valves in the process.
Now we wait and see it they actually turn up!

The Colby valve stem won't help torn tube valves. But if the tire/bead/rim are sealed, you should be able to put air in around the tube and continue....and rip the tubes valves in the process

They are just another spare to have with you in case they can help and get you going again, just like having spark plugs or points and capacitor. They won't help in every situation but without them you don't have even the chance of getting going again.
So if you can get your tyre bead back in place most rims will let you pump up enough to drive a distance before you have to pump them up again. So a "get you home" type spare.
