Spare parts and tools to keep in 1972 Pinz 710

Post by spoolin fool »

hey guys

I am new to the Pinz and I am going to be doing some long distance trips offroad and was wondering what tools and spare parts should I keep on hand?

Actually I'd love to hear the response to this as well.

This is a general list not specifically for a Pniz, any long distance in an old vehicle that might need assistance along the way needs a tools kit and spares unless you have some other backup plan for dealing with breakdowns!

At the very least, standard good set of sockets, Open / ring spanners, Tools for electrical repairs, pliers, cutters insulating tape, wire rolls of different grades. A roll of fencing wire - very useful when require to hold up things like exhaust pipes as won't mind the heat.
Special tools to undo more complicated things if you have spares of them. (Holding tools for alternator etc).

At least one inner tube and the tools to put it in. Spare petrol, oil obviously. Brake, clutch fluid can be a good addition if you have space.

I am sure others will have their own lists of tools and things.

JB Autoweld or similar: http://www.jbweld.com/collections/epoxy ... s/autoweld Came in handy when I punched a hole in the oil pan halfway up Holy Cross. John already mentioned spare oil.

Fuel pump. Cheap (and small) insurance.

WD-40 Works as designed for "water displacement", plus might help free up mechanical things. Again, cheap and small.

An extension pipe for the allen wrench for the gearbox plugs.

Yeah, but you probably got them in the tool kit, etc. The jack works particularly well for a Pinz. The fan spanner and spark plug tool come to mind as somewhat unique, but not truly Pinz-specific.
They were made to be serviced, for the most part, by young guys in the field. It's not too exotic.
Some of the more shop-oriented tools you probably wouldn't use or need to carry, ie. tools for removing a wheel drive or pulling a gear, etc. You might need to use them in the field, but probably not worth carrying around in general.

Add a couple throttle linkage ends, cheap and difficult to find a replacement at times.
