You have a nice collection.
Could you put an outside picture with the fold down side rails completely open along the tyres and one picture from inside of the little part in the back that stay in place ? Thanks.
It's because I want to do the same configuration with my second pinzgauer.
I've got in stock 2 normal side rails and a split tailgate.

I know this is a late reply to an older post, but I just noticed it. Anyhow, the truck looks to me like an Oman variant of an Austrian Rapier truck. The Austrian Rapier missile trucks had drop-sides and tall roofs, unlike the Swiss Rapier trucks. I'll try to attach a photo of one off the net.

The FAL variant had taller drop-sides and built in equipment boxes.

I did not know Austria had a Rapier version of their Pinzgauers, and for whatever it's worth, wikipedia does not list Austria as an operator of the Rapier missile system...
Oman definitely is/was an operator, though.

Well, the truck I posted a picture of was labeled as a Rapier truck, although I don't know whether that is actually true or not, all I do know is that it is obviously another Austrian variant of some kind to add to the list. I had no idea that Austria supposedly never used the Rapier system, so I didn't doubt it at all until now. Now the only question is, what is it then? Judging from the fact that I have a Rapier truck, I can envision a need for the high roof, It would enable you to carry one extra tier high of missiles in the racks, which would be a big percentage of more firepower onboard a truck that is more than capable of carrying the weight.

That's what the FAL Pinz looked like in service

Didn't realise the Austrian army had switched from light air defense artillery (20mm) to short-range ground-to-air missiles... while I really should have because I was still spending two weeks per year in the Swiss army, serving in light air defense, when we did the exact same thing...
Main difference is we never mounted the guns or the missiles on trucks (guns were pulled behind Unimogs, Stinger missiles carried in trailers behind G-wagens, but shoulder launched), and we ditched Unimogs and Pinzes in the process, in the mid-90s in favor of just G-wagens. Thanks for the pictures!

In my few days in the Austrian army I never got any background info about what, why and how, but asfar as I picked up the initial concept was the anti aircraft gun on a trailer pulled by the Pinz.
Next phase was mounting that gun directly to the truck. Meanwhile they had figured out that the anti aircraft gun was useful at shooting tanks.
At the end of that development they bolted the anti-tank gun to the Pinz.

All info based on rumours :-)

Thanks for sharing those, I enjoy seeing the trucks in their military dress.

Now where to find an old anti aircraft gun... I think the neighbors would love seeing one of those roll through the neighborhood!

The 712FLA was a 712T with a weapon platform mounted into it (like a tub). When I was looking for a 712M back in '01, a FLA was offered to me.. a couple years later, EuroTruck in Ga was selling a FLA platform that had been removed from a 712. The folding rails and all were part of the platform
