I am planing to buy this monstrosity...

I looked up in this forum to see if there is info on this one. I only found the posts either bashing it or making fun of it.

I have seen it person. Here are some details:
1. It was sitting for the last 3 years occasionally going around the block.
2. It has Fiat Croma 2.0 Turbo Diesel. The owner knows nothing about it other than the fact that he replaced the turbo two years ago.
3. Rust is minimal underneath, but has rust spots on the body.
4. Cab is somewhat padded but not insulated
5. Exoskeleton is not my taste. Wheels are smaller and are of bad taste
6. Air brakes
7. Snow plow was used on previous owners driveway in Montenegro. Not for commercial purpose
8. All four axle boots are torn
9. Found oil under front differential
10. Back differential looks clean

I have no experience in Pinzgauer. I own and worked on 1970 two stoke bikes and that's pretty much it. I like old weird stuff like this and the engineering that went in these trucks seems to be an art form for me.

I live in Raleigh, NC and from what I see do not have support system as you guys do in the West.
Please let me know your thoughts.

A red head step child. The only support would be from the original Dr Frankenstein that made it.

My personal opinion would be to buy a somewhat stock Pinzgauer if you wanted community support.

I really, really.... really think it's a bad idea to get within 100 yards of that thing.

I would have hoped that if the OP did buy this vehicle even though it is not liked, the "community" would offer as much support as is possible to support the OP and his vehicle.

Pretty poor form not to offer support just because a vehicle is not to ones taste.

I have to jump in here and comment....the issue is not one of the purist only
gets support, e.g. a Pinz true to the original design, but more of one of a
"we don't know". This truck has been so heavily modified that most would
not have the ability to give you advise. Especially around the engine transplant.

You buy this "thing" and have problems with the more standard aspects of the
truck you will gt the usual FLOOD of recommendations BUT, you got a
problem with the engine, cooling, mounts, tranny wows, you may find yourself
all on your own because we just don't know what this chap did.

Completely understand and agreed. Speaking of which I forgot to mention that the transmission remains the same.

Yesterday and today, I did spend time over the forum and found amazing information. I am looking forward to get your support and contribute in whatever small way I can too.

Ya, good example, the Tranny is stock but what is applying torque to it is not.
And I suspect the bell housing/clutch are something else too. So the point is
you make changes like this it potentially has a ripple effect throughout the
entire drivetrain -- who knows?

Whatever the case, at minimum, I think the car bumper needs to meet a trash bin and the wheels replaced with something reasonable, like transits or stock.

I am sorry that the comment was taken out of context, but what was meant was valid answers would be limited to "known" Pinzgauer components, hence a 'somewhat' stock unit preferable. As Ron had stated, I am more concerned with the heavily mod-ed parts of this truck.
