AAAh, so it finally surfaces ! It actual was not an demonstrator but rather an example for Federal/CARB emission ( and DOT?) testing. SDP brought 2 716K into the USA (California) for federal/state testing. One was an automatic and the other was a 5 speed (for testing, the US required all applied variants).

Back in 2001/2 I met the gentleman whom had own this 716K (iirc) this was the 5 speed one. As he had relayed the story to me, they were imported for the purpose of being US certified and later stored in a warehouse. The rest of the information is vague and almost no timetable reference. He found this Pinzgauer in storage and bought it. He owned it for an amount of time when he sold it to someone in the UK. This would have been in the early 1990's, as he had included a picture of him delivering his daughter to college in San Diego and the 716K was in the background. Unfortunately, the photo is in an old dead computer in the garage.

As an "also mention", the other companion 716K was sold out of the Los Angeles area in 2001/2 to a collector in Japan. I heard other stories on this Pinz, but nothing I can confirm.

BTW, this Pinz was all RAL white and no winch, but with the extra side windows. It obviously had somewhat of a rough time in the UK, as it show panels on the rear doors indicating rust-through and sports those ugly oversize UK mirrors

Well, we have a difference of Pinzes and mirrors. Back in '02 when I got my Pinz, most single mount mirrors were the smaller glass mirror and the 2 point mount were the UK style polished stainless mirrors, At the same time, my 101 Vampire had the UK style (naturally  ).
And oddly enough, I have several pics of MoD P93s with the smaller mirror... Go figure!

I'd like that silver one as well. 8)

There is an optional G mirror that was bigger but used the same mount.

That’s a nice truck!
Early G has at least 2 size of mirrors
