Well this article already starts with a mistake...

"When Austria-based Steyr-Daimler-Puch developed the Pinzgauer out of its smaller Haflinger in 1971"

This was never the case as the Haflinger and the Pinzgauer were two different develepments .

When the production stoped in mid 1974 they had different options but as always the millitary had some demands and SDP developed a whole different car to replace the Haflinger...the car we know today as the G-Wagon.
The millitary also wanted a light weight truck to be able to tow a canon and amo. As well as carrying troops....so they developed the Pinzgauer .
Everyone thinks that the Haflinger is the Precesor of the Pinzgauer but thats not the case.
