Does anyone have recommendations for a Hand Winch?
I rarely, if any, have need for winch, so is cumbersome, expensive, and more complicated for a full electric winch system. If/when needed, I could handle the extra time and muscle required for a Hand Winch.
And I suppose in addition to recovery, it could be used for utility purposes?
Primary factors I am looking for is suitability for Pinzgauer and safety (don't want it breaking under tension and cutting me or someone in half!).

The cheapest but least effective "Come Along" winch is a High Lift Jack.
Get's you about 2' of pull/iteration, limited in force to about 4,000 lbs.

The next step up is a Come Along hand winch. These are a significant step
up in pull force and continuous through the length of the steel cable. There
are several brands out there, one being ARB.

Yes, but when you do need one, I'd argue from a safety perspective that you don't want to be dealing with any compromises. A hand winch is potentially much more dangerous, especially if you don't use it frequently and therefore don't have a lot of experience with its operation. A permanently mounted electric winch with synthetic rope is arguably safer, less cumbersome and can be had for a few hundred dollars. Just a counter perspective for your consideration.

Look for "grip hoist" much better results. I have a jet brand that seems to work fine but the black rat unit gets far more use. With the number of vehicles and the circumstances around recovery I prefer the grip hoist to a vehicle mounted unit. Takes a bit more effort but has a ton more flexibility
