pragmatism

Post by lindenengineering »

I refer to my post on neglect of oil levels leading to engine failures.

Of course Peter made a comment about SDP and the need to advise some owners etc. The same can go for coolant in those types of engines.

Refering to pragmatism or rather Auzzie progmatism I once met up (at the truck factory where I worked in England) with a group of Australian truck owners who were customers of the company.
One of the group ran a fleet of dump trucks in the Northern territories. This bloke was a real "Aussie Digger".
He had a mixed fleet and amongst that fleet were some of the truck range we produced had a habit of overheating in tropical areas leading to engine failure.
I asked him about his experiences. "never had a problem mate"! was the reply. "Oh aye" I replied "that's unusual". "No it aint, I have just redirected the Pommie design of the overflow pipes from the radiator. Now if the engine overheats it blows scalding coolant onto the driver's foot. That makes the blighter take his foot off the pedal". "Struth you aint kidding", I said.
I wonder what would SDP think of that "passive design mod".
