Insuring a Pinz in CA

Post by jpipes »

Fellow CA Pinzgauer owners, how/where do you insure your trucks in our fine state?? Any suggestions or recommendations? I have Esurance right now and they told me no this afternoon, but would reconsider if I faxed them photos/details/specs/proof of acceptable use on CA roads, etc, but they still may say no anyway. Ack!

jpipes, send me a post or PM and maybe we can talk n the phone I'll hook you up with some great insurance with my agent, I went around and around with others and was told no, but this agent said yes and I am happy beyond all belief.

This was one of my projects, but other than a few, no one felt it was important to share their info after they got theirs.

insurance

I have insurance through Farmers. I just called my agent and told him I have to insure another vehicle.
This one is Pinzgauer, it is Swiss. He will not be able to find it on his cross reference chart. It is listed as Styer on the papers. I have it insured for liability only, keeps the rates low and as it is also an off-road vehicle and I may bend it, that arrangement just made sense to me.

I also had no problems with the Unimog, it was a 1962 Mercedes truck.
It has since been sold. With the DMV the conversation should not include the words 'old military vehicle'.

I could probably get insurance with some other company for less, but I have been with Farmers for 20+ years and they have never given me any flack about any of my vehicles.

YMMV

Thanks to all who helped out by posting or sending me a PM. I have successfully insured my new truck using one of the specialist companies. It was too much of a pain to attempt to get the normal companies to cover it, so I opted for one of the collector companies. As an FYI I did manage to get AAA to give me a quote but it was around $900 a year which was way too high for me.

Jpipes,
Was that 900$ from AAA full coverage? I pay 361$ a year for liability only from them.
