Turbo Diesel on e-bay?

Post by Wayne Roberts »

I was just on e-bay and found this. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Other-Ma ... enameZWDVW I thought that the Dave Dunn had the only one. I can not afford to bid but thought that somebody might want to bite. I wonder how it came to be in the USA?

I agree with Jim, the blue paint inside gives it away.
This looks like the truck that was down in Texas almost two years ago. At that time it was not eligable to be registered for on road use. Don't see a tag onit either so maybe it still isn't registered.

However it is here, and it is for sale.

Odd I should be phoned and emailed , all of a sudden.

I do know of this truck, and is a sister of the Pink Cow. The last pics I saw of it , it was stripped to bare metal and bondo. It came into the US few months before my truck, but did not get registered until a year or so back ( mine has been registered for almost 5 years now ).

Things that the owner may not know on that truck is the engine was rebuilt in Europe before it came here ( kinda need to to that with a blown engine  ).
It was a municipal truck in Sweden, and has had the odometer turn over either one or two times ( so figure on another 100k or 200k kms on the truck).

The VIN is wrong on the ebay listing. 716/18s in that era only have a 16 digit VIN plates ( too many zeros on the listing)

Chuck, the truck was in Cal back in '02 and later moved to both Nevada and Texas. The previous owner had it listed on ebay for sale a couple times, but never reached the reserve. It came back to Cal a couple years ago. I heard that the truck did get registered in Ca ( this would have me leery, as my 716 made for a fight between DMV and CARB, and agreeing to grandfather it, and not let it happen again).

btw, that 716 was also listed in this forum at one time ( between hacks )

Pure speculation on my part, but I wouldn't be surprised if the following were true:

Truck has completely rotten rear and side doors, in fact they are either mostly gone or have been pumped full of bondo.

Prior owner of the vehicle has a LEGAL JUDGEMENT against current owner for defaulting on payment for the purchase of said vehicle.

Said vehicle is currently registered and tagged in CA......however any prudent buyer would want to VERIFY MODEL YEAR AND VIN # AGAINST ACTUAL #"S ON THE VEHICLE. To my knowledge there is 1 Legal TD in CA, and this is not the one I am referrencing.

3 Months ago said vehicle was parked dead on the street in Belmont CA with bad injection pump. Hopefully it has been taken care of.

Again, just pure speculation from the Barbers shop!

If the truck was totally Legit it would be on consignment with a dealer for maximum exposure. Last time I saw a picture of it it was in very bad shape(it's been on Ebay before), and the vin does not appear correct.

I like your new avatar Jim. I'll bet everyone else on that particular obstacle found a way to go around it or over it without looking that dramatic, but like you've told me before, "Pinzy's tend to take their own line if you let them". Now that's my type of line!

Mike,
As I recall, that is the place that allowed me to use my can of 'instant pinz body restorer'.
...but, as you can see, it can be done!

I find this insane. The auction ended for $50.1K and did not meet the reserve! I couldn't imagine spending that much money for something that may never be allowed on the road ever again... and even crazier for the seller to not have a lower reserve.

At $50k, I would be a fool not to sell my 716 if someone offered it.

That was shocking . I emailed the seller early in the auction to point out that I had concerns about how the vehicle was listed (that I doubted it was fully legal in California), and I got a very abbreviated response that it was indeed fully legal. My question and the answer never appeared on the listing, and I'll bet there were many more queries that also "failed to appear" there. I'm glad that nobody got the vehicle, and whoever offered $50K should get their head examined.
