The results of the search for a replacement for the Australian Military LR (121 Overlander Tender) were recently published and unfortunately the Pinzgauer was NOT successful.
Australia's fleet of Land Rovers is to be replaced by Mercedes Benz G-Wagens.
Playing Devil's advocate, I "think" I'm somewhat pleased that Australia isn't going to receive 1200+ Pinzgauers and the exclusivity of the 20+ Pinny's that are here will continue for the present.
I'm also pleased that I don't have to look, or justify, to those less enthusiastic about the marque than myself, the Pinzgauer II's styling!
I also take solice in the fact that the G-Wagen originally started out as the H2 (Haflinger replacement project) and that it is a SDP design, so it's a cousin to the Pinny!
For the moment the closest bulk user of newer Pinzgauers (718's) will continue to be New Zealand!
NO Australian Military Pinzgauers.
NO Australian Military Pinzgauers.
