Newbie from Switzerland

Post by GenevaPinz »

Hi all,

I just wanted to introduce myself as a new Pinzgauer owner from Geneva, Switzerland.

Two weeks ago, I received my '72 Pinz 710M which I purchased from a car repair and dealership that used to maintain Swiss army vehicles until a few years ago.
The owner had kept this one Pinz for himself but recently realized that he had almost not driven it since he purchased it 14 years ago. I had the luck to be on the lookout for Pinzgauers for sale when he decided to sell it.

The forum has been quite helpfull to me already as I have been browsing and searching it quite a lot... I am not really experienced in any way in car or truck repair and maintenance, but I guess this will improve soon.

Looking forward to share some experiences on the forum and hopefully give back a little bit of the help I already received :D

Take care,

Jan

Jan,

As you can see, this forum has a global audience and you've already seen how helpful everyone is for questions and general inquiries. I'm jealous of you being in Geneve. Not only is it a spectacular city, I bet there must be dozens of ace Pinzgauer mechanics within 5 minutes of where you live or work.

Enjoy your new acquisition and welcome aboard.

A third request for pictures!

I think Geneva must be one of the cleanest, nicest "big cities" in the world. Went there with a school trip a looooong time ago. Saw my first topless beach on the lake. Maybe that's why I always wanted to go back.

Welcome!!

Bienvenu Jan,
Je suis tres jaloux! I used to live in Lausanne in a large, but not nice apartment that was directly downhill from the train station, but at the same level as the platforms. The view was beautiful, and the trains were quiet, but the recorded voice of the announcer was difficult to handle- "ding dong dang dong l'intercity a bern..." There was only a pause from about 1:00 am to 5:00am. I guess I can look back at that fondly now.
McCall and Payette Lake are beautiful, but isn't Lake Geneva. Please post pictures.

Hello Jan,

Nice to meet another european Pinz fellow!
I live in Torino, Italy, and own a petrol 710K and a turbodiesel 716K.
I have many contacts in Europe (Switzerland included of course) concerning spare parts, so fell free to ask me any information you need.

A warm welcome from
Ugo

P.S. I was in Geneva last Friday for the international car show.

Many thanks to you all for the warm international welcome!

Anthony, Milesdzyn, thanks for the german-speaking "Pinzforum" link. I don't thik I'll register yet because my german is apalling (especially after studying it for so long in school)... I can always make some focused searches on it, but participating would be a bit difficult.

Ugo, thanks for the offer, apart from Gut garage in Zurich, I have no other address for parts in Europe (just discovered www.pinzi-shop.de, though...)

Texas pinzgauer, for the ace Pinzgauer mechanics at every street corner, well... let's say I am happy enough to know at least one close-by, as it will allow me to actually have some hands-on training from guys who have experience maintaining these vehicles. From what I could see on the forum, a lot of Pinz owners and specialists all over the world have done a great job improving these vehicles and enhancing their already impressive capabilities way beyond what the Swiss military was happy with.

Todds112, the topless beach is still there (if it is the one I think about)!! 8)

For the pictures, I will have to take a few and post them soon... my Pinz is rather unspectacular as it is in the plainest ex-Swiss army form. I added the first "aftermarket" option in the form of three padlocks to close the tool/battery boxes and the jerry can bracket!
However, it has been well maintained (it has less than 45'000 km / 28'000 mi. on the meter...), in a few places there is some paint-covered rust damage (heater hose intake in the passenger side footwell, mostly) and the rear cargo floor is a bit uneven, but nothing major, really, for a 36-year old vehicle...

Jan

GenevaPinz, Jan,

I would not worry about speaking or reading German, I have no other tongue other than English and that is what they use when conversing with me ( better than I even) I just use Google to translate the rest and ask if I do not understand anything. I had some friends come over from Germany in their Pinzgauer last year and this summer there are two more German Pinzgauers with friends visiting also. I may even have a Volvo C303 TGB 11 visiting though that is not certain as it may be a rain check.

milesdzyn sorry I did not see your post with Robi's site on it.

Hey Jan,
Welcome to the addiction.
My mother was born in Geneva and I have had the good fortune to visit your beautiful city. She approves my selection of a former Swiss Military transport. (My aunt who still lives just outside Geneva does not. Go figure.)
I proudly display my Swiss heritage with a CH on every vehicle.
For pics of my 712M go to:

You have to go back a few but the truck is there.

Happy motoring,

Brian
