24 Volt AM/FM radio source

Post by Heed »

Gents,

I found a source for 24 volt AM/FM radios on the 'net.

This guy will ship them from New Zealand and the price is pretty good. It's a nice little unit with a USB port as well as a slot for an SD card.

I ordered one and it arrived yesterday (about a week and a half for shipping). It was really well packaged.

$175 New Zealand dollars. In US that's probably about $150ish

24v radio

Looks good. The temp range is -20 to +60 degrees. I hope that is not in degrees F but is in C. Apparently it plays movies too.

That's a good find; I'd be a bit worried about the CD player in the dust.

I opted for a plain basic radio from Komatsu 24v no bells or whistles but dust proof. CAT may have them in 24v as well, contact any big boy toy manufacturer and you may get a deal on old stock items.

Miles,

I agree. The CD player was a concern for me as I view it as the weakest link in the system. But with the Flash Drive capability, I figure a 8 GB unit will take me as far as I want to drive in the Pinz anyhow!! And no skipping! :)

looks like i nice quick pinz upgrade! does the usb data work well? i guess the system sees only mp3's on the usb drive. i'm wondering how the display looks when switched to usb. is it as controllable and readable as any of the other input sources?

thx for sharing!!!

Hi Ka,

I just had the system delivered last week. With a busy work schedule and precious little time, I can't see install until the snow flies! :(

I was thinking about such an upgrade. So with one of these a 24v unit, all we need is a power source and a couple of speakers?

Yup!...power source (behind seat even?) and speakers!

I was going to look into a proper DIN mounting box and see about placing it directly under the glove-box. That way you can use the the remote that comes with the unit while on the driver's side.

For those of you that have K models, I would imagine you could even mount it in the rear and use the remote. That way you could have the best of both 'worlds' and use the DVD feature for a small mounted screen while you were camping in the back.
