Finally got my 712 today
After waiting a month or so, I finally got my 712 today and drove it around town! Thank you Thilo!
I had a &*%$ eatin grin on my face the entire time.
I'll post a picture soon - It's already getting dark here in WA!

Congrats and welcome aboard!
Driving your new Pinzgauer in just about any urban setting is going to make you appreciate the hell that Paris Hilton and Nichole Richie go through everytime they both find themselves shopping on Rodeo Drive!
Is that a Unimog?
Does it float?
How much was it?
Where do I get one?
Do you want to sell it?
Do you hunt with it?
Is it a diesel?
Who makes it?
Are you sure it doesn't float?
Better line up some good answers!

Driving my 712W recently through Joshua Tree National Park, I stopped at a turnout to take some pictures. Expecting the typical response from most middle aged people (like how much gas does it use, are you a survialist, etc.) the first commnent I got from a 50'ish woman that I parked next to was "is that thing as fun as it looks?!" to which I replied "Even more!". As she drove away, another lady asked "Did you make that yourself?" You will be surpised at the range of comments you get!

Madness..
damn right .. it is MADNESS..
owned it since 09 Oct 6th.. ( most of you know which one!)
http://real4x4forums.com/PinzgauerBBS/v ... php?t=4742
why MADNESS ?..well since then..
ghost-ridden it in '09 mogfest @ calico
[some forum members bear witness]
pulled RedBull RTPT about 50' down the mountain trail..
almost started an electrical fire..( overhead console wires shorted)
drove SOCAL back country twice..
recently fire extinguished it (since it caught fire second time..) [there exists witness for this too..]
today..well.. changed..
gear oil ..(8 litre of StaLube 85W90 24239 )
+ engine oil (6.5 litre 30W Valvoline conventional)
changed FRAM G2 fuel filter & NAPA 1768 Oil filter
driven 5276 km /3112 miles in 58 days so far..this is my daily driver
never had so much fun [well almost..] ..[discount the fires..i live in Ramona..]

Re: Madness..
Just to clarify, the cause of BOTH of these fires was the new ownership, not the previous owner.acebee wrote:

further clarifications..
just to further clarify... even post ownership..
no part of the vehicle actually burned
( episode 1: insulation of a flimsy 24AWG wire i put in overhead console melted.. battery switch immediately turned off on first whiff of smell ..wire was naturally replaced.)
( episode 2: welding sparks caught by the insulation sponge was promptly taken care of by a Kidde ABC)
vehicle was scrubbed with spray& wash [Jim T suggestion] & ample elbow grease during oil change..
[now after the spray&wash scrub ..the Pinzy smells just like my clean pair of Joe Boxer socks! ]
you were right Mike.. - thinking of even using Engine Degreaser was a bad idea!
Apopros: to Jim L/ Arch Magus...
incense used expressly for Lord Ganesh/Remover of Obstacles

[ fervently prayed to remove all obstacles..
..from Mogfest trails & to protect tranny mounts /locker(s)! ]

Are you sure you're not using it to cover an odor? I have a prescription for that I swear.
Madness
Sorry was busy last day or so.. putting the LED panel in the overhead console & better connections beyond hastily wound electrical tape to thin wires..Ep#1 above.. so could not respond sooner about the odor/odour..
maybee, maybe the odor is better than the prescription! certainly true for ayurvedic concoctions to cure the same.'Chirota'.. .however the distinctve plant pattern being instantly globally recognisable does make me sanguine that the maybee cure will be worse than that of the pernicious disease, which i can already assure you/forum readers. that it does not exist & not certainly the figment of the fertile...i know obscure.afterall obscure diseases ought have obscurier(?) remedies. :-0
btw on a lighter note ..could be related due to the serial consumption of the flamed grilled pollo buritto from the 24hr los rancheros taco stand.!
The known cure for this is endless shrimp at red lobster..love the hot biscuits!!!
