In my old LR days, there were samples of 6x conversion, but the 2nd axle was driven off the PTO mount off the back of the transmission

Our friends from Oz will know these

They've actually been fairly reliable from what I understand (after initial problems), however they are all going soon ..... to be replaced by 4X4 and 6X6 G Wagens.

And without anyone asking... you assume it's a typical LR

It is a Perentie. Here's one page on them.... and before wetting yourself  , look at the top speed on the 6x6
But I love the powerplant :D

Given that the G Wagen was built for Mercedes by Steyr, in the Steyr Plant where they built the original Pinzgauer (I think?) will the Australian versions also be built in Austria or like the Landrover Perenties will they be built in Australia?

The G Wagens are being built in Austria.... I understand the first batch of around 40 has been delivered and is undergoing local radio/electronic fitment.
I'm off to the Air Show on Tuesday (one of the trade days) so hopefully they may have one on display.
