Conspicuity...is that a real word?

Post by texas pinzgauer »

In another post, there were questions posed about adding strobing or flashing lights to the rear of a Pinz to make it more visible at night. As I HATE messing with electrical matters, I sought out a battery powered magnetic mount light that I found at a local company that sells emergency lighting to contractors, police etc. This one resembles a rear light that you'd mount to a bicycle seat post except that it's like 15X as big. Cost was less than $25!

The attached photos also show the "conspicuity" material that I added to the rear of the Pinz as well as the rearward facing surfaces of the forward most rollbar. As the truck is white, this silver tape is barely visible during the day but really lights up at night.

Bottom line, a slow Pinz during the day is fine but a slow Pinz at night is i-n-v-i-s-i-b-l-e!

More info on the light please. Who makes it and model # if possible. Also if your local source sells online let us know the name of the company.

Thanks, Miles

I bought several and the one that has a manufacturer's name on it is Marpac Corporation of Rocky Point, NC. It loks like the Fox Fire unit is what you'd be looking for.

as you check out their website, you'll see the accessories that go with it like the magnetic mount. I'm sure other companies make these but this one is well designed.

Thanks for the link. I just ordered a Foxfire Amber with the extra strong magnets. Nice that I can move it between the Pinz, my trailer and a few other "toys".
Now to get some tape.....

The magnets are scary strong. Best to some how pry or tilt the unit off and not try to slide it as you'll likely chew up some paint in the process.

I thought that might be the case with the magnets. I may mount a sacrificial square sign in the usual spot and not worry about it getting scratched. Thanks for the heads-up.

Thanks for the links, I like the rechargeable units. Also like the Wag Light but need to look into if they are legal in NV for non commercial vehicles.
