Looking for a transporter (Houston to San Diego). Ideas?

Folks,

I know the subject comes up every so often here but is there a preferred vehicle transportation company or broker to haul my (his!) 712 from Houston to the west coast? I doubt there's any reason to go with an enclosed transporter so a flat bed / fifth wheel or open hauler should work out fine.

Any suggestions or specific firms y'all have used would be appreciated!

Second vote for uship. I have used the site more than once with good results. Sometimes you catch it right and it's a direct shot and there in a couple days. IME, you have to let the trip simmer for a few days to get the trip that works for you.

U-ship can be a good option a couple of caveats. Make sure the transporter that you are selecting has current insurance, and licenses. Don't accept their word for it, ask for an "Insurance Certificate" check the dates. Then check their licenses to make sure they are current.

Billybob with his pickup doing a deadhead back from delivering his moonshine will NOT have commercial insurance that will cover your vehicle if the worse was to happen. U-ship has huge disclaimers and is NOTHING other than a matching web service, they do not give any guarantees of the quality of the carriers.

The licensing is important as we actually had a customer that had his truck impounded at a port of entry coming into Nevada riding on a non-licensed carrier. He had to make very quick arrangements (at his expense) to get a transport to pickup his vehicle. It is not legal for an unlicensed private party to transport a vehicle across state lines for pay.

On the commercial load boards Suv's are running in the $500-700 range in this lane. Usually add 30% for your broker, plus a bit more for the rarity of the Pinz.

My guy is planning to line up an enclosed transporter...so clearly he wants to do this right and not cut corners.

Any thoughts on vendors for that grade of services folks?
