Calico Mogfest 2013 Oct 4th to 6th

Post by David Dunn »

Mogfest found a new home last year at the KOA. It is just off the freeway on the western offramp to Calico.
Unfortunately, I was only there for one day last year :( , but very nice facilities.
Call for reservations during the week and ask for Donna

Yermo is very pleasant that time of year, and sometimes cool at night.

It is also a great time of year to see Death Valley, and actually it can get quite cold in the mountains around it. Some great temperature swings between hot and cold. The park goes from below sea level to over 11,000 ft. :shock:

A repost from the mog list
List;

Since Joe has posted a few of the details I should probably elaborate. Here is the rough schedule from the peanut gallery so far:

Thursday 10/3: Die hards start arriving mid-day and we hope to set up the Mog Central tarps and flags as in previous years.

Friday 10/4: Most likely do one or two short day runs as people will be rolling in all day. Last year Eric Lint volunteered to deep fry a turkey with Joe's help and we ended up with a wicked pot-luck dinner with some really exotic dishes. Plan to take part in the pot-luck again this year and it should be an event!

Saturday 10/5: Main trail ride day. That plan is to head out Mule canyon with the big trucks and work our way around the backside of Calico Peak and end up on Fort Irwin Road. Will be an all day trip while Joe and the metal-bashers try to break their 404's on the Gate Keeper, Doran and Odessa. Bring lunch.
Saturday dinner will be catered once again by the BBQ guy but we will plan for more food. Somewhere around $12-13 per head for dinner but we should know more later.

Sunday 10/6: Usually a short trail ride while the early risers pack up and head out of Dodge. I think checkout time is noon or 1pm but we need to check.

Feel free to post any questions and forward this info to others who are interested in the event. We used to plan every detail for the weekend but found that running it fast and loose worked well with a group this size and it cut down on the BM&W factor.

ONE MONTH AWAY!

Alan Draper
It wasn't mentioned, but, at some point, Alan will be needing a head count for Saturday night

A change on the BBQ night. And as in the email, they did run out of food last year because people assume they could just show up and be fed
Guys and Gals;

I know it's a little late in the game to be making changes but our BBQ is double booked for Saturday night and can only do the dinner Friday night. We will do the Pot Luck Saturday night instead.

More important, we need a head count for the Friday night BBQ so we know how much food to order. We don't have a slush fund to cover any extra costs so what we don't collect will need to come out of Joe's pocket. :-)

Please email me at alndnese@aol.com or Joe at Joe.obremski@gmail.com and let us know if you will be participating in the BBQ. Last year it was $12 per adult and I think we worked some deals for the kids. We did run out of food at the end so we want to make sure we order enough.

Thanks and sorry for the short notice! Please pass on to anyone else you know is planning to attend.

I was just in contact with Alan, he has not received any reservations for the Friday night BBQ from anyone from the Pinz/Haf groups, and I have received only 1.
The cutoff date is Oct 1st to rsvp

Subject: [MOG] Mogfest BBQ Update!

The BBQ is back on Saturday! That is right, it's moved again.... :)
Apparently the BBQ guy had a bunch of cancellations so he is free to bring
the goods Saturday night. Hopefully this works out for more of you as we
usually have a larger group onsite Saturday night. So if you can make the
Saturday catered BBQ and have not already RSVP'd to Alan or myself let us
know ASAP!

Potluck will be Friday night again also.
