710 4x4 compared to 712 6x6

Here you can find few videos comparing capabilities of both versions in the same medium to hight difficulties trail.

On extreme conditions I think you all agree that 712 is superior.

Nice comparisons of the 2
I watched all 9 videos and the only place I saw the 710 have a issue vs the 712 was at the beginning of Video1 but the 710 took a different line and the front tire fell into a hole.
Thanks for sharing!
The winch mount on the 712 looks interesting too - do you have more pictures of it?

Yes, drivers were different and took different paths. The passage with a sustantial difference in performance is nr 6 were 710 was stuck and had to be towed by 712.

I might be wrong, but it looks like a 710 has proportionally stiffer rear suspension (compared to a 712), such that an unladen one is reluctant to use full upwards wheel travel on a single rear wheel. This contributes to the greater lateral instability of the 710 since it wants to push the truck over.

The 712, when one rear wheel is raised on an obstacle, is happier to suck that wheel right up, perhaps because of the greater weight elsewhere in the rear of vehicle (what with the extra length and pair of wheels), reducing the temptation to tip to the other side.

I have a 710 but have never driven or seen driven a 6 wheeler, so this might all be hot air.

Interesting videos, on some fun looking terrain.

The extra 1000 pounds of the 712 is located in the ideal position - at the very rear. This causes the rear suspension to flex better and gives better balance compared to the lightly loaded rear of the 710. The only downside of the 712 (in my opinion) is this same 1000 lbs having to be pulled around by the same 90 HP engine...

The general admission is that the 712 has better traction, lighter axle load and is more stable (less "bouncy") from what I could see and read, although the shorter and more manoeuverable 710 has a (small) edge in tight quarters.
Thanks for sharing the vids!

have both, wheel both and there are many places the 712 can go the 710 can't, I have found no place the 710 can go that the 712 can't.
The only thing the 710 offers over the 712 is a lot more excitement to the driver, passengers and onlookers.

the true advantage is the pivoting lief springs on the 712. That method of tandem axle suspension is used allot in Logging truck applications due to its superior ground adhesion off road. There is a term for that configuration that escapes me.

Tight turns around a tree or two. My 710 was much smaller, so i could take on tighter turning obstacles. I agree that i could get the 712 through it, but the 710 is a lot easier.

710 is cheaper to maintain. That's 2 tires, 1 diff, 2 sets of breaks, 2 hubs, and 1 locker that you don't have to maintain. With that said I'd love a 712 ;-).
