Bracket on Right Front Passenger Door of 710K
I just purchased a 710K and have a question on a bracket. The right front passenger door has a bracket that I don't know what goes there. The forward portion of the bracket is shaped like a cup or "u" that would cradle some handle . The aft portion is a wire type clip. Forgive me for not having a picture but I will get one as soon as I get home today. Any idea what it holds? Could it be a hatchet. I've seen some small hatchets just below the passenger seat on some vehicles.

Don't know what those brackets are for however as a heads up if you haven't discovered it yet there are numerous differences between your Austrian truck and the Swiss trucks most of us have. Do let us know what you discover their for.
I'm guessing that this is your new truck? http://www.pinzgauer.com/shpics.php?tab ... s&idnum=27
Interesting roof rack.

Yes it is and I am getting an education. I will let you know if I can find out what it is used for.

Can't help you with an Austrian truck's peculiarities, sorry... and in any case the last time I sat my a** in a Swiss army 710K was in '94, so my memories are not exactly the freshest...

I like what the vehicles have to offer and this one had what I was looking for in this type of vehicle. It definitely gets a lot of looks going down the road and everyone wants to know what it is. lol

Congrats on the new-to-you truck! Did Willie at Swiss Army not know what it was for? Surely, if anyone would know....
BTW- If I had to guess, it's a mount for a Suomi M31 or other short sub-gun

Looks like a mount for a small shovel / entrenching tool
Lots of Pinz pictures here.......

Yes, on 2nd thought, it doesn't seem likely they'd have a mount for a gun on the door- too likely to fall out when the door opens and too crowded for the passenger. I suspect you are right Miles.

Re: Bracket on Right Front Passenger Door of 710K
I agree on the sub-machine gun not being the answer... mostly because there is already rifle mounts for both the driver and passenger at the usual spot (I know Arnie is Austrian and usually totes more than one piece of weaponry, but Austrian soldiers are only issued one Steyr AUG each... )
I don't know about the entrenching tool... The truck has a full size shovel already. Also, this location is really in the way, perfect for immediate use, which would mean that it received something the passenger would need in hurry. I would think something more in the line of this:
Used to stop / regulate trafic at intersections when travelling in a convoy. Less exciting than a SMG...
EDIT: right, just after posting I searched the german forum with the name of this piece of equipment ("Winkerkelle"), and found this post:

This is for a 710M, not a 710K, but it seems the right door ("rechte Tür") is indeed the place for such a hand signal in the Austrian army.

That sounds about right - 404 Unimogs had similar on the passenger door too.

I agree with you about it not being a gun mount on the front door, however they do use rifle mounts on the rear doors, looks like they make it easier to get in and out of the truck.Dogslovetrucks wrote:Yes, on 2nd thought, it doesn't seem likely they'd have a mount for a gun on the door- too likely to fall out when the door opens and too crowded for the passenger. http://www.pinzgauer.com/shfull.php?tab ... picid=4084 There are a lot of interesting changes from the Swiss 710k's.
I do think GenevaPinz has nailed it with the "Winkerkelle".

Re: Bracket on Right Front Passenger Door of 710K
I called back to Swiss Army and no definite answer on the brackets. I agree with you on not a good place for a weapon since the passenger side has two rifle holders. The forward bracket cradles whatever it is holding. The aft bracket is just a bent wire clip so not sure what it would support. Thanks for the input from everyone. This is a great forum for answers and help!

That bracket is defiantly for a traffic paddle. If you decide to take it off I would like one for my haffie.
