Best rear LED's I've seen, now on the farm 712.....
These things fit like a glove, after correcting some home- brewed wiring by one of the previous owners ( why can't people just leave the Pinz the way it was designed.?........thanks Paul C. for the patience )
They are JW Speaker 265's, and to me, they look just right, and are very bright!
Merry Christmas to all!

Nice find. Hopefully people will use these instead of those Jeep lights I see too often.

I bought them too and have them installed on my 710m. They look 'stock' and don't interfere with rear door like TD lights.
I got the idea from Chris who posted them here http://real4x4forums.com/PinzgauerBBS/v ... =18&t=5326
and I will probably copy his small side marker lights too.

Oh yeah, somehow I didnt realize it was the same light. I thought they had just come out. They might be a great Volvo upgrade. Its old lights suck as well and these still follow the stock "lines" although my Hella LED design looked damn good too.

There are now LED replacement bulbs for the 21 Watt 24V Narva lamps with a BA15s base. Just in the past year the market has been flooded with
incandescent and Halogen direct replacement LED's. LED technology has gotten way down the cost curve along with the necessary wide voltage
range controllers to operate from 9V to 30V these have now seem to be a good option using your standard housings. I just starting doing some
replacements for internal cabin lamps, next up turn and breaks.

What a bummer, I've been looking for an LED equivalent of the TD tail light and Speaker do sell some products in Australia, but not the 265's.
It appears they aren't ADR (Australian Design Rules) approved.
Any similar looking TD lights I have found so far are cheap Chinese copies/units.

Ive used plenty of non DOT (The US version) things and no one would or has ever known. My current headlights are EU approved... only.

To get the 718 appoved for registration it has to go though a complex checking/approval system by a registered RAW's Engineer ........it gets checked a number of times throughout it's rebuild/evolution and he is thorough

To that, I'll add that sometimes it's better to ask forgiveness than permission. You can do anything you want, so long as you're not successfully challenged.VinceAtReal4x4s wrote:I understand but after that.....

Re: Best rear LED's I've seen, now on the farm 712.....
In the USA, and specifically in California, this is what the rules say about tailights and brakelights:...It appears they aren't ADR (Australian Design Rules) approved.
24600. During darkness every motor vehicle ... shall be equipped with lighted taillamps mounted on the rear as follows:
(a) Every vehicle shall be equipped with one or more taillamps.
(e) Taillamps shall be red in color and shall be plainly visible from all distances within 500 feet to the rear except that taillamps
on vehicles manufactured after January 1, 1969, shall be plainly visible from all distances within 1,000 feet to the rear.
24603. Every motor vehicle ... shall at all times be equipped with stoplamps mounted on the rear as follows:
(e) Stoplamps on vehicles manufactured on or after January 1, 1979, shall emit a red light. Stoplamps on vehicles manufactured
before January 1, 1979, shall emit a red or yellow light. All stoplamps shall be plainly visible and understandable from a distance
of 300 feet to the rear both during normal sunlight and at nighttime, except that stoplamps on a vehicle of a size required to
be equipped with clearance lamps shall be visible from a distance of 500 feet during those times.
I have removed much of the information that does not directly apply to our trucks, check out http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/displ ... 4600-24617 for the whole thing.
As pertains to a Pinz, in California (as in the few other states that I've checked) there is no requirement that the tail and stoplights must be DOT approved, only that they are "plainly visible" or just visible under certain conditions. It also allows for pre-1979 vechicles to have amber brakelights, as the stock 710/712s have. This is also why I feel confident using my custom LED tail lights (even if they do spell out "STEYR PUCH" and "PINZGAUER"!) as there is no way anyone can claim they are not visible for the distances required. While they are bright, and a definite improvement over the stock lights, they are not too bright as to be a menace.
Sorry, Peter, that this doesn't help you, but it may help others in CA or other USA states.
