Interesting 718
Interesting 718
Spotted this 718 at my local Royal Air Force base yesterday. Used for mobile airfield engineering support I believe.

Re: Interesting 718
I hope you realize what you have there, and how lucky you are! The best 4x4 on earth. If you ever see a 1990 version, let me know.

Call me a "stick in the mud", but I still personally think you can't beat this body form/shape/style etc for a TD

Guess that would be the best 6x6 in the world then...Profpinz wrote:Call me a "stick in the mud", but I still personally think you can't beat this form/shape/style etc for a TD
Agree about the K versions.

Re: Interesting 718
I find that 6x6 VAB ( as ATL named them) interesting, as there is an "air suspension" pressure over the rear tires. Not to be confused with the 716s where is an automatic leveling system, this 718 is labeled for 3.0 bar.
Some of ATL's early online newsletters have pics of different VAB bodies variations.
I have found places where ATL have had their own designations for their Pinzgauers, and at times uses 2 different abbreviations for the same truck.
Some may find this interesting.

Me thinkith "the stick in the mud" has moved, 12 years ago it the stick was a 712K. ... but you did qualify it by saying "TD"Profpinz wrote:Call me a "stick in the mud", but I still personally think you can't beat this body form/shape/style etc for a TD
But you're now in the greener grass on the other side of the fence in TDdom.

Re: Interesting 718
Tim,
Definitely a pretty 716MK (or 716HT depending on how you look at it ) ... I'm probably in a minority, but I really like the 716s over the 18s ( and to everyone else, NO, I ain't selling GG )( unless you want to offer wheelbarrows full of money)
"IF" ATL/BAE made all the 716MKs that MoD had originally contracted, they constitute almost 40% of all the soft skin UK Pinzes made.
The NZ LOV contract was around 32%.
I hope to meet you when you're over on this side of the pond next time.
Cheers

Tim,
Maybe you can bring over a full size British phone booth for me in your carry-on?
or a Tardis.

Re: Interesting 718
There's a 716 (VAB) in that body style for sale ATM down in Australia. I believe its owner Ty is a member here.
A rare find down here, I wonder how such a new Pinz found itself in OZ?
