Brake fluid on Clutch Pedal

Post by TechMOGogy »

Have brake fluid (just a few drops at this point) coming down my clutch pedal and a few drops under the clutch pedal on floor 5 bar plate.
For the life of me I can not see where it is coming from - booster is clean, clutch res and line clean, even the brake master and lines seems clean and fluid free. Only place I see it is right at top of clutch pedal where it goes into the assembly.
I searched as I kinda remember something about this but can't find it!
Now that I have seen fluid I 'think' my brakes feel a bit spongy. Firm up with a pump or two.
Thx,
Dan

You have to nail where the leak is coming from.
One way to get there is pressurize each system
and look for a leak. Simply, clean all surfaces as
much as you can. Then push the Clutch in and
hold it for at leat 10 minuets, if you have a leak in
the clutch system you should see some of those
tell tail drops again. If no leaks on the Clutch then
repeat on the Brake, there you can apply a lot more
pressure in the system as the shoes hit the drum
surfaces and the pressure is all under the limits of your
strength, the clutch pressure stops once the pressure
plate opens.

Your probably looking for a Hydraulic leak that is
measured in molecules per hour. They are not easy
to find. Can take high pressure and hours to get one
lousy drop out of the interface. This putting load on
the system to find it.

Makes sense
I will mark all fluid levels and do tests and hopefully track it down
Thx

All the ones like that I have had to fix were the master cylinder leaking into the booster and down onto the clutch pedal. Depending on how much fluid is in your booster, you might even hear a squishing noise when you depress the brake pedal (a sure sign it is time for a new booster as well). There is also the outside chance that the clutch reservoir is leaking but you would see that if you took off the knee guard.

Checked last night and there are no visible leaks or leaks on the exterior of any connections that show up on my fingers (brake and clutch).
Must be leaking into the booster and coming out the pedal assembly (and 1st area it could come out is the clutch).

should be able to loosen the brake master cylinder at the two bolts on the booster. If fluid comes out you know your culprit.
