And away we go. My new ‘73 710. Slapped on an aluminum bumper recycled from an old ladder rack off my dodge. Brush guard is 1 3/4’ aluminum tube from an old raft frame. Put together a winch Mount since I travel solo a lot. The fender flares are 2” steel tube which should provide cover for the extended wheel width of the Klugwerks Disc Brake Conversion kit being shipped. The rear bed protector (replaces the wood rails) came off my dodge too, were bed rails for a tonneau cover. I’ve got 4 Super Swamper 33-12.5-16’s waiting for the new wheels custom made by Klugwerks for the disc conversion. I reinforced the center nose cone frame to prevent further deformation from winching. The 1/4” plate is welded on to the nose cone and goes completely around the steering linkage openings. (I’ve got bad cervical vertebrae & bad vision, hence shitty looking welds but I think they’ll hold). Yes I bought a Pinz that had been subject to a force great enough to pull the entire front cab down enough to misalign the windows in their frame. I didn’t realize it at purchase time, but learned after reading hours in this great forum. I got pics of all the fabrication I did if anyone is interested. And the camo job.....I guess not bad for first time, not 100% confident it’s permanent.

I like the paint job and the reinforced front support - looks very stout!

What are the two "horns" at each end of the front bumper for?

I think the new tires you got are actually 33x9.5-16 and not 12.5 wide though? The SX2-50 tires I was just mentioning in the other thread - right?

Looking forward to seeing it all together soon! Wheels should be on their way to you tomorrow.

Specs are:

Wheel Shell - Steel 16x8 - 0.157" / 4mm thick with safety bead "humps" - DOT stamped

Wheel Center - laser cut 1/2" thick high strength A36 alloy steel

Bolt Pattern - 5x130 with 84.1mm center hole (hub-centric)
(choice of) - 5x160 with 120mm center hole (lug-centric)

Backspacing - 7.5 inches (requires spacer/adapter or disc brake conversion)
- outer edge of wheel matches the Ford Transit wheels position +50mm / 2" outward from stock position with disc brakes installed

Lug Nuts - 60 degree "Cone" type required

The five holes around the center allow re-torquing of the spacer's nuts with the wheel in place. The spacer is used with the disc brake conversion.

The ten holes around the perimeter are used to press in the center and to hold it true while it is being welded in a fixture. They also can be used to bolt on a sacrificial aluminum "rock ring" to reinforce and protect the wheel's outer edge.

These wheels extend outward the same amount as the Ford Transit wheels with the disc brake conversion - but are 1.5 inches wider. It might be possible to even make a 9 inch wide wheel the same way with 8.5 inches of backspacing - anyone building an iceland / arctic type truck?

Thoughts? Opinions? Too ugly?

The “horns’ are from the ladder rack that the material came from. They look odd and you might think I’d catch em on a tree or something, we’ll see.

Yeah hard to tell without it mounted up. They look really thick and heavy to me... like something Id make a winch plate out of. Why so much metal?

These weigh 40 lbs per wheel - the transit wheel weighs 32 lbs but is 6.5 inches vs 8 inches.

The center plate is 22 lbs of steel. I made a set up in 3/8" steel for myself to test out also.

It would be possible to take a few lbs of steel out by adding more cutouts / holes in the plate as well. The current design is pretty minimal as far as cutouts go.

Here are a couple of updated photos of those wheels installed on a Pinz. Also I reweighed them on a better scale and they are 38 lbs vs 32 lbs for the Transit wheel. I don't have a original Pinz wheel on hand to reweigh as a comparison.
