Hi folks
I'm just wondering how hard it is to remove (and replace) a 710K hartop. I have access to a workshop with a roof level winch.
The appropriate parts diagram for this is http://www.puch.at/en/spare-parts/pinzg ... /hard-top/
It looks like there are only a few bolts to remove.... but the Silkaflex 221 (part 36) is worrying, is the top glued to the lower body? Mine appears to have some kind of rubber gasket between the two. If this is glue, will I have trouble separating the two?
Thanks
Mark
710K hardtop removal - how hard?
Re: 710K hardtop removal - how hard?
I just did this last year. A bit daunting at first but really not that hard. You have to be patient removing the bolts over the windshield frame, M6 I think, that screw into the frame. No nuts to lose. the sides and back are bolted with maybe 18 bolts total. You should be able to find them all with the exploded parts diagram. A couple are at the doors. Take photos of the wire connections. You will have to watch the wiring at the doors. There is a spade connection on the wire to the side door buttons about at the separation point of the top. I did extra work by not finding this until after I removed all the wires from the button. The piece I think you are talking about is just a foam insulator to seal the seam. It is similar to weatherstripping used to put a topper on a pick up truck and available at any hardware store. Get some friends and take your time. The top is fairly sturdy but needs lifted evenly. We put some cardboard shims in first after evenly separating to allow strap placement. Then inserted two 2x4s, screwing them to the bottom to maintain the spacing. Just lifted with ratcheting straps. After lifted, You can put it on some saw horses for working on it. Three people can move it, easier with four.
Here are some pics ( had trouble getting them sequenced). Available for questions.

The mirror supports are original. I also thought the mirrors themselves were original swiss but someone told me they were not. I believe they may be the diesel ones that SAV sells.
