What the Heck is This?

Post by IndyPinzy »

Hello all,

Newbie here. I recently acquired a 710K that is largely in good shape but looks like someone pulled off a couple under-dash parts by lopping off wires. I've been going over the wiring diagrams posted here and the service manual but am having trouble identifying the item in the photo below. The Black/Red wire color says this is part of the brake switch circuit. (By the way, I still haven't been able to locate the brake light pressure switch on or around the master cylinder assembly).

This object looks like it may have been broken off of something else when the vehicle was stripped of another part or two (turn signal flasher for one).

I've tried doing a search on brake switch but have not found anything that matches the appearance of the part in the photo below.

Thanks for any assistance!

The brake light is a hydraulic pressure switch, screws into the backside of the master
and not easy to see. Wondering if the switch in your hand is a substitute mechanical
switch, keyed off the pedal arm. See attached "Group 9-60" for the proper switch.

Here's a photo of the brake light switch installed. It's a bit tricky to get at it.

Thanks very much guys. With those two images, I was able to find the brake switch- not at all where I was originally looking. : )

Unfortunately, the mystery continues. The brake switch is wired up, so what this object above is still unknown.

Have you checked the rear side of the fuel gauge ?
That piece on the wires looks like the connector part broken off.
Cheers

Thanks Albert. I think you may be right. On one of the FB pages, another just suggested the same thing. Time to pull the fuel gauge.

I had hoped the wiring issues were limited to only the harvesting of the hazard switch and signal flasher by a previous owner(s), but it looks like I need to look a little deeper.

Best regards all.

Here's a couple of other views. I haven't pulled the fuel gauge yet to see if it felk/broke off of that yet.

So...that is not some kind of push button switch unit there(?)
What's supposed to happen on the opposite side of where the wires attach?

That's a connector that plugs into the back of the fuel gauge. It looks like one of the pins has pulled off the fuel gauge. They're differently sized so you can only plug it in one way (assuming the pin isn't broken off like as above).
