Harbor Freight spring compressors

Post by mm58 »

Anyone here have experience with these?
I'm just concerned with the safety aspect being that they are an HF product.

DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE, TRY TO COMPRESS THE PINZ SPRINGS WITH THESE THINGS.

Seriously. Even if you survive, the tool will be destroyed. Really, really, scary. They may work okay for passenger car struts, but they ain't Pinz spring-compressors.

Beg, steal, or borrow the right tool for a Pinz. They can be made, but you'd better know what you're doing as far as materials and workmanship.

They are OK for the rear springs ONLY. I've used them for that purpose when
there was a very stubborn Spring pin that would not budge. Use for the front
springs only if you have a death wish :P

What about compressors that you might rent at a local auto parts store?

Dono, I wouldn't chance it. These springs are beasts.
Perhpas someone in the AZ Pinzgauer community has
a compressor to loan you, or maybe T-Lo.

Yeah the SWPA has a very nice set of spring compressors that have done many, many springs. This includes the attempt at very stiff custom front sitting for some of our nose heavy trucks. Side note the custom spring project was a failure.
