TD Tail lamp wiring options

Post by Jim LaGuardia »

For those wanting to upgrade to the TD tail lamps, here is an alternative wiring option . The way I do it only requires small wire mods and allows installation without adding in new circuits to the harness.
Most use the pink wire(black out light circuit) for the brake lights and run a new wire for the back up lights. However there is a second and easier way, all Swiss units have an orange wire going from the front all the way to the tail lamps (at least 1)and the juction box.
So I pull the dash back to expose the wires attached to the indicator light bar, disconnect the yellow wire from the lamp that is behind the green trailer indicator(it connects to the orange wire in the main harness), and unplug the orange wires from the hazard switch.
Jumper the yellow and orange wires together. You now have a seperate brake lamp circuit all the way to the back.
The pink wire is then removed from the haedlamp switch and moved to term #15 on the ignition switch. Now install your back up lamp switch and intercept the pink wire in the main harness behind the gas can and install the switch leads to complete the circuit THEN RESEAL THE HARNESS. The pink wires are now ready to attach to the lamp assembly. End result is minimal intrusion or addition of wires  Wire the rest in as per normal instructions posted On Expedition-imports.com(EICSB114)
