Thank you all for you advice and help. The distributor moved a bit but never came out, but I did manage to relace the capacitor. In the end I had to call out the local auto electrician and it turned out to be molex connector

Alternator removal problems. What am I doing wrong?
I am trying to remove the alternator in order to replace the condenser,
which is well and truly stuck in. However the alternator refuses to
move at all as if it is welded down? The clamp lever has been loosen
and prised open a way and the bolt holding the clamp lever in position
