Please troubleshoot with me why a new reduction gear starter will fail to engage the ring gear when the engine is hot?

Recently serviced this starter at local Bosch workshop here in CapeTown and was advised that bendix drive is approaching end of life. It has not failed me yet but I cannot take chances since it is a working truck and decided to replace it with a eduction gear ...
