I put the TD overdrive tranny in my 712W (which also has Jim L.'s 2.7l "torquer" conversion). I get exactly 60mph at 3000 rpm in 5th (overdrive) and while that just barely works with the additional power, the Laycock ratio seems slightly better (7% lower ratio) which I would prefer. Plus, with the OD you don't lose the low ratio of first gear (the TD tranny trades first for the overdrive 5th). If proven reliable, I'd say it is definitely a better solution.I can't help but wonder if the Pinzgauer engine would have enough power to drive the vehicle with such a reduction in gearing?
