Unexpected oil leak

Saw a patch of oil under my truck today. It has never dripped oil so I was a little concerned. Looking closer I realized it wasn't engine oil but hydraulic fluid. I could see it seeping by the hydraulic lines for the diffs or brakes (not sure which they are) I removed the dog house for a closer inspection BUT... as I took the passenger seat out found a puddle of oil underneath! Very strange, where's it coming from... traced it all back to the bottle
jack
It had leaked and run all the way into the front of the engine bay and on near the hydraulic lines. Checked the
jack over, still worked, cleaned it up and will keep an eye on it now.
So everything is not always as it seems at first!
(This isn't posted in engine cause in the end it wasn't an engine oil
leak)

I was nervous for you for there, a for second. Yeah those jack seals go bad after some time, like all hyd. jacks, they need new ones eventually.

I was puzzled by the subject title

.."UNexpected oil
Leak"
The only time I've seen expected oil leaks were with Land Rovers
Its OK, I'm a LR owner too, and can bash them at will

If a LR is not leaking oil then it is out of oil

THAT is an unexpected Unleak...
SOP for a LR... add oil to everything at fill ups, change oil filter twice a year. No other PM required

A similar thing happened to me. One morning I found a trail of liquid coming from my front wheel hub. It didn't feel oily so I thought it must be brake fluid. I cleaned it off and waited for it to reappear to see where it was coming from. It didn't come back and was still dry at the end of the day.
Next morning it was back again. I couldn't see where it was coming from. The brake fluid level hadn't gone down. I was mystified.
On day three the mystery was solved when I saw a dog taking a pee.

Bet it was fun when you dipped your finger in it, rubbed it between your 2 fingers... hmm does not feel oily.
On to step 2 - fingers up to nose for smell test... hmm does not smell oily
At least you did not have to proceed to step 3 - the taste test
