Tyre Sizes
Hi all
What are the widest tyres you can fit on the standard Pinz rims? And has anyone widened rims to fit on wider tyres?
I dont know if this is even possible (widening the rims) or is it a no no?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
Sam

G'Day Sam,
How goes it?
I run 10.5" wide Simex on standard rims without any problems!

Hi Peter
Yes it is going really well. I am getting to know my way around the Pinz now. I must admit that after working on other vehicles the Pinz is a joy to work on and metric
.
What I am after is some of the widest tyres I can get for sand. The 245s are about 9.6 inches so it is Ok to put the ones you mentioned on Standard rims is Ok?
I just asked at my local Cooper dealer and they told me not to go for anything wider than a 245 on a 6.5" rim but I guess they are just being cautious as they mentioned uneven wear but the camber on a Pinz must cause uneven wear anyway.
Thaks for the advice.

when i bought mine it had 35 x 13.5 X 16 on it i was not comfortable with that ( they recommend 10-12 inch wide wheels) i had 10" wide ones made. and have those on it now but probably would not get wheels made if to do it again and would have sold bigger tires and stay with smaller ones. just bought trXus MT's 255 X 85 X 16 when i was visiting Denver.
big tires will be nice when off roading in the muck thou. there are pictures of both in various threads here

Thanks Guys
I have had the problem with a tyre coming off of the bead at reduced pressure so I wanted a bit more surface area without lowering psi too much.
I am interested in AK Nimrod’s comment. Why would you not stick with the wider tyres? Do they cause a lot of drag and what are the drawbacks of using them?
Thanks again

seems to be alot of drag, for on road use noticeable decrease in power, still gets up to speed but slower to get there. the guy that had them on the 6-1/2 wheels never had any problem and would air them down to mid teens if i remember right.
the reason i guess mainly is before spending $900 on custom wheels again i would have gotten other tires. the big tires look nice and after snow is gone and i can use them off road i might change my mind.
