pintle/lunette info wanted (WTB lunette)

Post by undysworld »

I'm considering building a trailer to tow with my 712, and am concerned with where I would find the correct size lunette ring to fit the Pinz's pintle hitch.
Does anyone have a lunette to sell?
Or know where I could buy one?
Can anybody provide me with the dimensions of a correct lunette ring? ID? OD? Thickness of ring?
Thanks in advance.

A standard pintle ring fits just fine. Any NAPA store will have a catalog with a variety of styles. www.buyersproducts.com has a bunch...you can go there to see what you want, print it and take it to NAPA and they should be able to fix you up. Years ago I converted a Wally World 5 x 8 utility trailer by welding a lunette in place of the ball mount. Many, many ,many loads later it's still holding strong. I used one similar to the Buyers LW10.

BTW, I believe I've done some fishing up around your neck of the woods in my youth. I was born and raised in Dubuque, IA and my dad used to haul my brothers and me all over the tri-state area on fishing trips.

Ahh, there's the problem. I cannot find what size a "standard pintle ring" is. I've searched ebay, etc. and find a variety of i.d.'s and o.d.'s.

Can some Pinz owner with a "swiss" trailer offer me any advice? Or measure their lunette for me?

I was advised that a U.S. Military lunette would bind with the Pinz pintle. I towed a U.S. trailer, and it did bind, though only during back-up. Is binding during back-up normal? (It was not greased - maybe that's why??) Does anyone here use a U.S. Military trailer with any good/bad opinions?

Hi Mike, yeah, that is indeed my neck of the woods. It'd be heaven if only there were some mountains here, with skiing, and open Pinz roands.... Oh well, still a nicer place than some I've been through. :)

I use a US military "Jeep" trailer and have not had any problems with the lunette binding. Seems to me it fits just right.

Of course, backing up a short trailer is tricky, but I have a rear-view video camera that makes it a little easier.
