Anyone running 10" rims?

Post by michaelh712 »

I need new tires and my rims have seen better days from my last Moab trip. I'm considering wider rims with stock backspace, and am interested to know if this would present any problems with axle wear or interference. Advice gratefully accepted.

I still don't understand this topic. I am running the 8" widened rims from Cold War with 285/75 16 Mickey Thompson MTZ's and they rub the shock mounts and the body tub on almost every outing. I had the same issue with the 285/75 16 Trxxs MT's. This is not a problem just notice the rubs and can't imagine running any larger tire.
BTW I am running 265/75 16 Mickey Thompson MTZ's on stock rims on my 710M and they rub in the same locations.

Gents
I love wide wheels and gnarley tyres! "cos they make more shop revenue!

Seriously though we see a higher incidence of wheel bearing wear leading to seal failure when using these types of combinations. In fact we are doing yet another series of hub bearings/seals on a 710 with those "famous" alloy wheels with Mickey Thompson covers installed. (covers UK term Tyres).

We also see a higher incidence of twisted outer axles with these combos that does some real damage to the pocket book !!

So when contemplating such changes do keep these comments in mind.

I have to think the incidents of repair concerning the larger more aggressive tires comes from those who use their trucks a little harder off road. Thus the reason for wanting the larger tire in the first place.

Good point though, any more aggressive mod could lead to failure with surrounding components.

One could argue that spraying the bedliners will add weight and thus wear out the suspension components.

Oh when will it end?

WELL I HAVE 10 " WHEELS AND 35 X 13.5 X 16 TIRES. THE TIRES WERE ON THE PINZ WHEN I BOUGHT IT LAST FALL BUT ON STANDARD WHEELS  I WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WITH THAT AND HAD THE 10" WHEELS MADE IN DENVER BEFORE I HEADED NORTH WITH THE PINZ.
IN RETROSPECT I WOULD NOT GET THE BIGGER WHEELS AND WOULD HAVE SOLD THE TIRES. NO PROBLEMS NOW.... HAD LUG NUT LENGTH PROBLEMS AND DOES NOT GET UP TO SPEED NEAR AS FAST.
I HAVE TRXUS MT'S TIRES (255'S) IN DENVER WAITING FOR THEIR RIDE TO ALASKA WHICH WILL BE NEXT MONTH. THEN THEY GO ON MY REGULAR WHEELS AND THEY WILL BE MY MAIN TIRES EXCEPT WHEN A MOOSE HUNTING TRIP IN SWAMPY COUNTRY COMES UP.

AK
I have a lot of customers with those Truxus 225's installed and so far no problems! At least I haven't seen any.
I am monitoring all this very closely because there seems to be a cut off where some wheel/tyre combos work well and some don't.

I have Pro Comp 315's on my rig at the moment---In short bloody horrible. Ok in the dry but on snow I feel like the Pinz has morphed into santa's sleight. All I need is a team of diesel powered reindeer!

So are you interested in a Ural? Curious
Can't promise the armaments!
