Oil Filler Tube.

Post by cronapress »

Has anyone out there ever experienced a cracked oil filler tube ?

Noticed the underside of the beast was liberally covered in sump oil when I arrived at Haflinger Technik's super new workshop to have another matter attended to. Dale homed in on the source pronto.

A crack about threequarters the way around the circumference of the tube, a couple of inches up from the bottom. Tube must have been flexing with engine vibes and oil gravitating down providing extra rustproofing in the basement !

Tube was tight on it's 3 studs, in otherwise good condition and wasn't fouling anything.

Dale hadn't seen/heard of this before. Has anyone else ? Maybe I'm just lucky that way !!

Yes, I have replaced a couple of cracked oil fill tubes. They were higher milage, and one was run very hard.
These engines can have a bit of vibration
