Roof vent/fan system

Post by VinceAtReal4x4s »

Does anyone have experience with these? http://www.batterycountry.com/ShopSite/ ... 14350.html

I was thinking of getting one for my 303 if I can sell my Rover (my one treat from the sale).

My 303 is set up for sleeping in the back but is in great need of some kind of fan. These look like the best units out there and are within the size range that fit into the aesthetics of my work. Solar powered while having battery (wireless) back up for nighttime. I can't find specs for how high is sticks up above the mounting surface though it doesn't look like it will be over 2" so it's inline with the stock hatch height.

they stick up about 5 inches. they don't move as much air as the hard wired vents so they only get used if the customer whats them.Would also worry about it being ripped off while driving down the high way.

fan vent

I have a couple of tubular guards left over from my Unimog radio box roof. If these could work to protect your fan , let me know. They are about 6'' tall and attach to the roof with sheet metal screws. Sort of an inverted 'U' shape.
PM me and I will send you a picture and we can discuss it.

Erik are you sure this is the same model you have worked with? How would it get ripped off if it mounts through the roof via a big hole? Or is this a more flimsy design than I'm thinking? Also, the overall height is only listed as 6" but the bottom tube section looks like it accounts for at least 2-3" of that. The low air volume is what I wanted since I only need it when sleeping or while its parked while Im out on foot, etc.

Morris, thanks but I like to keep things very low profile. I've had to go under fallen trees before and had the roof scraped. I dont like mounting anything that goes above stock height.

Vince,

I have a almost identical solar-powered fan on the roof of my 710K. It does
a fair job of keeping the interior cooler over the summer. Of course it only
works during the day!

I feel pretty stupid the pic looks just like a house powered roof vent. I was tring to figure out why tou would wan't to put it on your volvo. The manufacture sells them as well they have lost of other cool solar powered items that look like they would be cool to add as well.

Vince,

I have seen something similar for Land Rovers, belive it was in a few issues of Land Rover International, can't seem to find my last issue, they were on D90's and D110's for the bonnet ( or hood ) to exhaust excess engine heat, might be worth checking it out....
