fan balancing

Post by krick3tt »

I am going to have engine work done, is it worth the money to have the fan balanced as well?

fan balancing

Morris,

Deffinately do it, give Scot at EI a call I asked if he was going to do it and he said he would check into it, I had mine done by Jake Rabey and it works great, but as you can tell from the EFI posts it will take a melinium to get it done, took over 4 1/2 months to get mine back, but it does almost compleatly stop the vibration at the engine, another step is to have the front drive shaft balanced too, Jim L. and I couldnt belive how smooth my truck now runs.

Yes, If Scott doesn't do it. you should be able to get ballanced locally most big air exchanges, towers have there fans ballanced just before install to increase the life of the shaft i had mine done here for around a $100 money well spent. Also driveline ballancing is nice but you better have a competent and honest shop do the ballancing or it well cost you more in the long run. and not just any one can ballance the shaft you have to have yokes made and that isn't cheap close to $700.

We can generally turn a Pinz fan around in 2-3 days now.
The differences are huge after we complete our balance service on the fans.

Thanks Jake,
That is good to know, about the short turn around time. I was going to buy another fan just to avoid the 6 week delay and not being able to drive the pinz.

Jake, how much do you charge for your fan balancing service? I may just send my fan in when I get the alternator rebuilt.

The service is typically 90.00, BUT some fans are easier to balance and I charge 65.0 for those. We never know till I get the fan in the machine.

I just had my fan balanced for $40 (based on time spent) by a local engine rebuilder and it was done the same day.

It definitely cut down on the amount of vibration I could feel. Now I hope that it will cut down how often I have to retighten the carb screws

Getting the fan off was the only hassle; it did not come off willingly.
