(OT) Supacats

Post by David Dunn »

Well, thought I'd start this "off topic" with pics of my Supacat ATMP, ( aka "Garfield") and share pics and links from this last Friday 4th of July parade in Sierra Madre. I was invited to participate by the local MV museum, as part of the VFW group.

And I received a packet of brochures on some other Supacat vehicles, that I'll upload later when I have time. One quite interesting in that it can be changed from a 4x4 to a 6x6 with a "Extenda Module" that add a larger frame section, 3rd drive axle and increased capacity in 2 hours with conventional hand tools ( or removed). It also has a full air suspension that goes from 7" of ground clearance, all the way up to 20 3/4".

Dave, those vehicles are just way cool. Does it have an odometer or speedometer? I'm wondering if you have a mpg figure or if just has an hour meter.

Standard is a hour meter, this one also has a speedo, and a display for odometer and tripmeter, but doesn't work or isn't programmed. similar to other VDO electronic speedos. I drove the cat to and from the parade, and few more places  , delivering people back to their cars and homes.... Don't have a foggiest idea of the fuel useage, but had so much fun, I don't care. The crowd's reaction to the Supacat was great, and comical as it got closer to them, the comments and facial expressions were a "MasterCard" moment. :D :D :D

In the parade pictures were the other people are marching (walking) behind I got another insight into how big your Supracat really is. Nice.

Those pics are the best I've seen to date to get a feel for it's size, but seeing it in person is still the only real good indicator :D .

Erik
I haven't email them about the caption yet... and the following post will show why. :D

Well, since the 3rd of July, I (and a friend in the UK) have been negotiating not only one
Image
or two
Image
but for THREE Supacat dedicated trailers, AND
Image
a complete softtop with windscreen and rear hoops setup for Garfield ( as seen in this pic)
Image
We have actually agreed to buy 4 trailers, but depending on the condition, I may get the prototype Flipit trailer, the tub trailer in the 2nd pic was also a prototype as well, and the last is a typical tub trailer for the Supacats. My friend has made a deal to obtain a full hardtop for his 2nd Supacat , that left his softtop surplus for me :D

Now, the trick is to get this all from the furthest reaches of the Highlands of Scotland, the Midlands and just east of Wales to Southampton for a 'boat' for the Americas... perferably Los Angeles  ( we actually DO have a plan... )

What can I say, but I have a thing for a nice set of "forks".

Also, while I had it out last week, I pull the floor deck over the fuel tank, I find a pair of 6TL batteries! These are the same batteries as used by SBU Mogs and Abrams tanks. This is some serious battery power for a relatively "small" vechicle.
The drive chains (4) for the front and rear axles ( center axle is direct off the reduction gear boxes) are 1" .

Gads, I love being on good terms with people at factories. :D
As I had earlier promised, here is one of the brochures I got on the HMT Extenda.... imagine having a 710, and within a couple hours , make it into a712, or vice versa 8) . The vehicle has a full air suspension that with all air out, has 7" of ground clearence, and max clearence is 20 7/8".
As you can see, much better looking than the Pinz 2, powered by a Cummin 5.9 diesel and a Allison 2500 trans. Though I can't find dimensions on them, I'm guessing the 4x4 version to be similar to a 1300 Mog. These are manufactured under licence from Lockheed Martin (in the US, called FTTS )

I want one ! :) :)

The HMT 400 and 600 are actually different models and not convertible like the Extenda. I think a hardcap, LHD and AC would be perfect to trade bodies from a pickup to a motorhome...Hmmm, I wonder what the DOT requirements would be on a class 5 truck? :? The engine is already EPA compliant

Motor home would be very cool. I liked the 400 open cab pictured but motor home would be a much better choice. I put the pinz up for sale once before because Scott had a unimog motor home I noticed the other day he had another one. One of these turned into a motor home would be very cool plus the Cummins parts could be baught locally
