Horn Wire
Hello All.
My horn wire is shorted somewhere between the button and the bottom of the steering column. I can't see how to replace it. Any ideas? Anyone done this before?
Many Thanks!

When the only tool in your toolbox is a hammer, every problem starts to look like a nail.
Take the old one out......put the new one in.......
Sorry
I just couldn't resist....
I have had good luck in the past getting to both ends of a wire and splicing a new length on (by soldering) keeping it real small and tight - and pulling through slowly and carefully .. .maybe with a little dielectric grease...? I have not done this on the pinz - but on a old trailer that was wired inside a closed frame rail... it worked good
Sorry

Pinzing is AWESOME.

The wire goes thru a plate on the bottom of the steering gear, and a tube is installed in it so lube won't leal out. Top down would seem impossible as the chances of hitting the tube would be frustrating at best. Perhaps a length of heavy fishing line or weed wacker line from the bottom would be a thought as it is a tight turn into the gear. OR,loosen the box from the floor pan ,remove the pinch bolt under the dash and lift it up a bit to get a better shot with a wire. Good luck.

Foz,
You did this from the top down? From the horn button? How many straws did you use? This sounds like an interesting way to fix this.

I don't remember if I cut one straw to make it fit or used more than straw.. but get a bright light and look inside - you can figure it out.
FWIW I doubt it will wear out in my life time - I reckon the original problem arose from some prior pokin' in the hole and fiddlin' around with the wires. I have no plans to do any of that - so I hope the fix is perm.. if not, I sure as heck didn't lose anything.
