Heim Joint on Gear Shift>>REPLACED WHAT A DIFFERENCE

Trying to get my gear shifter adjusted properly. There is the heim joint (they call it a clevis in manual for some reason) that attaches to the shift lever on the gear box.

This is part 710.1.24.233.0



The ball has 1/16 to 1/8" lateral movement. I'm assuming this isn't correct? I'm having a difficult time adjusting the gear shift. It bounces all over when in gear.

Bad news if it's out of spec they are $69.39 at SAV. I did find that McMaster-Carr has a very good selection and some metric sizes if I can figure out what size it is.

Anyway, anyone ever messed with this?

Look at the lower shift lever bushings, they are nylon and have a tendencey to disappear...

Should be very little play, Mc Master or Applied industrial technologies, should have it, or King Bearing .

It's toast then. Have to measure it and find a replacement. Thanks.

This started off as a search for an annoying rattle. Gear shift was banging around when driving in fourth. Hopefully this will tighten things up a bit.

King Bearing only seems to have engine bearings.

Applied Indst Tech shows a 12mm one: $62.00!!

McMaster has a stainless one for $50.69, or a zinc plated steel for $11.13!

Wonder if the zinc one would be usable, or should I just bite the bullet and buy the stainless?

Went ahead and replaced it with the SAV one. I can't believe what a difference it made. It tightened up the shift pattern. Got rid of a bunch of rattling from the shifter. Did the adjustment of the reverse stop bracket. Much easier to get into reverse now.

If your gear shifter is sloppy, you should check this part out.

Todd, On the heim joint you ordered, was it a nylon bushing or a grease joint? I think some of the noise I hear when shifting, is coming from this area.

Make sure and inspect the shift tube carefully. They are prone to cracking at the gussets and then causing all kinds of havoc when shifting.

Saw tha post on the cracking, mine looked fine.

They have a teflon insert in them (no zerk). Mine was totally missing.

Keeping the gearshift pivot point sealed and lubed makes a huge difference, too. I let mine get dry over time as the lower boot had come loose. WOW, what an improvement when fixed.
