The Outdoor Adventure USA net is a group of people who are interested in vehicle dependent off road and adventure travel who also happen to be amateur radio enthusiasts.

They sponsor a weekly ham radio net on the Keller Peak repeater which is located near Lake Arrowhead California. This repeater is also accessible over the Internet through EchoLink. Recordings of previous nets may be downloaded here -

The group started last year. Most of the members are located in the San Diego area but others range all over Southern California, Nevada, and Arizona. They have a goal of hosting 3 "fest" events a year and also serve as a site for others to coordinate travel. This weekend there is a group traversing the Mojave Road.

There is an event planned to be held at the "Arizona Strip" in April which I hope to attend.

So far, I'm the only member with a Pinzgauer. I did host a net on Military vehicles where I hope I generated some interest in our hobby and didn't pass along too much misinformation.

I know of the "Parker Strip" and hope that is the same place, as you are mentioning. Let me know the dates, if I am in Havasu, I might just ride on down there!

Along these same lines, several months ago, Bruce also suggested that I check out Overland Journal magazine and it's without question a publication that should be of strong interest to all Pinzgauer owners as it's all about self supported off road travel in (potentially) extreme settings...anywhere in the world. I catagorized it as a mutation between a typical 4X4 magazine combined with National Geographic!

It's definitely worth checking out.

Yes, that we me talking about solar cooking. Cooking seems to be one of the most popular topics on the OAUSA net.

The April trip is to an area called Parashant.

I wasn't familiar with that area when I was living in Arizona but it is part of the Arizona strip which is the area between the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and Utah.

I have a commercially available "Sun Oven" which has been very impressive so far. The biggest drawback is that you need to be in camp and cook generally between 10:00AM and 4:00PM with 1:00PM to 3:00PM generally being the best time for high temperatures.

Bruce, If I can't keep me and the guys busy at work. I may be up for it. If my efi ever shows up. We can compare. I noticed on my last trip in your area most camp grounds did not allow any open flames. In some areas solar sounds like the ticket. All though there is nothing like the flavor of wood. We have no restrictions here.
