Skype

Post by Erik712m »

Any one on the forum have a skype phone? I was at a job to day and my client had one and realized I had a wireless modem in my car and proceeded to show me how she could use it to make calls? It was the first I had seen of it. With most of the city going wifi it looked pretty cool. Considering me and the guys use something 10k minutes if they all had one it would be quite a savings.

Now that is scary!... having to add a pronuciation translator , along with my current phonetic checker and decoder ring. I'll need a larger hard drive and more RAM.

I use Skype at work, mostly, with a webcam. Came in real handy to talk to the wife when I was traveling in China for a business trip for two weeks; didn't cost a thing, and had video to boot! For the most part, it works very well with DSL or better connections.

G'Day Dave ... Yes by all means, we can setup another chat!
I might even see if I can go mobile this time and do a bit of a walkaround the workshop/Pinny!

We use Skype for the monthly OAUSA net operators meeting. One person sets up a conference call with everyone who will be participating. The call controller's computer is a little marginal in RAM and CPU so occasionally it will lock up and drop all of the calls. It only takes a minute or so to get everyone reconnected. The only other problem I've noticed is with participants who leave their mic open and it starts to pick up background noise.

I've been impressed with the software and call quality considering it's a free service.

Pretty easy to do. Just look for the video that is shows five-seconds video, than shows please hold while the dial up connection is processing.

Dave, bored? On the hunt? Not a lot of room to play there.

yahoo messenger is realy good also in either calling computers or landlines.

Computers are free and landlines there is a fee of like 0.3c/min. I used to call UK to Aus for hours.

:x :( unfortnately my current internet service is below what would be termed sh@# (bad). To give an idea how bad, I had better internet, on wireless in Iran.

Regards

Mike
