My speedo wasn't working

Post by audiocontr »

and no, not the tighty swim trunks..

I noticed the speedo was dead when i purchased the truck, i also knew it was a common issue. Today i inspected the gauge and found a 90 degree elbow bracket for the cable to the back of the gauge. I removed it from the gauge and noticed there was no square center key. That would explain why there was no speedo. When i removed the 90 degree adapter from the cable, i noticed i could bypass the angle adapter and plug the cable into the gauge directly. What do you know!? working speedometer.

My question is why would someone install the 90 degree adapter, immediately notice the speedometer not functioning, and then not remove it? It boggles my mind

It's a factory item,it just broke! I had one in my K and removed it and did not notice any difference. Some say it has a gear reduction ,but I think it is more "strain relief" for the cable so as not to bend to sharply. That repair is definately easier than speedo head dissassembly! :D

No question you can run it without the 90. Your speed will be off as it is a reduction for the tires. Add big enough tires and you might not need the reduction!
