hows the 101 offroad?
Not nearly as good as the Pinzgauer!
I towed one up a hill once which I didn't consider that difficult.
I've 4WDrive'd with a number of 101's in the Land Rover Owners Club of Victoria over the years and the 101 can't mix it with the Pinny in the rough. The leaf spring suspension doesn't offer a lot of articulation and without factory diff locks they soon flounder....not that the Pinzgauer has a lot of suspension travel either, but pull on the two or three diff locks and you enter a whole new world.
If your going hard 4WDriving take the Pinny (especially a 712) but the 101 does make a great touring vehicle.
I have friends who use them for outback travelling and they are excellent in that role, especially when equipped with a camper back. Even the stock 3.5 V8 101 will outrun and out accelerate a Pinzgauer on the highway and when you put a souped-up later model 4.6 V8 in, look out.
