New starter mount

My starter fell off again & although I finally managed to get the offending bolts out from the mount, I'm still not happy with a rubber mount so thought I'd make a solid one:



This is the biggest engineering project I've ever attempted, I think! Boring the 83mm hole was, pardon the pun, really boring!

Now all the engine vibrations will no longer be isolated. Check for loose parts every few months, that insulator keeps the starter from vibrating apart over time

Why do no other vehicles, as far as I know, use rubber mountings for the starters? Is the Pinz engine abnormally high in vibration? I've had more damage to the ring gear by a poorly engaged starter and the fact that it nearly fell off twice (causing my subsequent bellhousing problems). I'll check the bolts though (and probably leave the safety strap I had around my starter anyway)

If you have engagement issues, make sure you have the right starter. It should be marked 1.3hp, if it is 1hp it is a Mog starter with a slightly shorter snout. Just enough to engage 1/4-1/2 of the tooth depth, this chews on the ring gear.
You can heat and re position the ring gear if there is room to move it.
The spacer looks nice, but these engines do vibrate a bit , so just keep an eye on it when the bonnet is off.

My engagement issues are because the starter has been hanging off!

Well, it's on & despite a tense few minutes when I had complete electrical failure (reconnected ALL the cables & fixed it!) engine cranks fine - no unusual noises etc. I'll keep a close eye on the bolts but so far so good!
