This is an early announcement but wanted to share what I've been up to in the 4x4 world. I've been planning a special build for some years now and was recently, finally, able to start it, though it will go slow due to budget issues (like always!).
I'll explain more in the near future but for now, I'll post updates here and on facebook. (You do not need to join facebook to see the pics/updates)
Thanks Ron. This won't be a wrecker exactly, but more of a Swiss-Army knife off-road recovery/logistics truck. The mini crane will allow for some unique abilities for cargo transport and other lifting duties (could pick up a UTV and place it where ever!), while keeping a lot of cargo room in the stock bed, which a tow boom would not allow. It'll also be set up to optionally carry a water or fuel tank, or a 12kw generator for remote EV charging, etc.
It's going to get three Warn winches (by yours truly!) which will help deal with most recovery situations out there. Two 18K industrials and one custom built 8274 rated at about 10K but is high speed with a very long rope, plus it can be directed 90 degrees off the bed, in either direction.

The holes on each lower side are threaded bolt holes for the swivel shackle recovery points, allowing any-angle anchor points that typical bow shackles don't allow for. They are actually rated at full working load even at 90 degrees!
The white chalk lines are where I'm plasma cutting the rest of the plate out for the larger industrial sized fairlead.

I just put this rear winch control box together. It has a LODAR wireless receiver, a wired remote socket for back-up, two military surplus LEDs to show power and winch operation, a marine voltage gauge and a toggle to activate the system. It's all water resistant and will be mounted under the bed near the hitch area.
With no budget, it took endless months and a ton of custom work since I made it up as I went along, but my headlights/fog etc are done and working!
In case anyone is curious, the headlight is a multivolt Morimoto 90mm, beside that is the high-beam VisionX LED, under those are the Hella DE fog light converted to LED H3, then the two little lights are white and amber warning flashers.
On the right outer edge is the mini marker LED from Peterson, and the rectangle light over to the left is a Tomar LED white driving and switchable amber fog 2-in-1 light.

The photo does no justice to how dangerous this was. The drivers were very lucky!
Got a call to rescue two Gov. agency owned 4x4s that had been stuck like this for 2 weeks, after they had spent a full day of attempts to free them using a backhoe and a loader, breaking several straps and got very nervous. There was a 150ft drop on the steep side and about 5-6ft drop on the other with a creek. Road was about 9.5ft wide total. I used a snatch block, dyneema rope extensions and the front Warn 18K lbs winch to bring both vehicles back up.
I wish I had better pics/video but I was way too busy to get much of anything.
