My ignition has been changed over to the civilian petronix. When this is done, is the distributor itself changed or do they keep the original Bosch?

Pertronix module is installed into the original Bosch distributor after removing the points and disconnecting the condensor.

Which part are you talking about? The shaft of the distributor is the same. The points (under the cap) in removed and replaced with the Petronix ring and pickup. Then a new cap and adapter for that cap are bolted on. With the new cap comes new wires. With new wires comes new plugs. Factory coil is used.

not changed. remember to sand the bottom of the civilian rotor. Timing 3-7mm btdc.

Does anybody know the parts number from Petronix? I read that some of their systems retardant the timing on start up. Wonder if that is what is on my truck

I remember about 10 years ago I purchased the Pertronix kit from SAV. The rotors are already sanded. Pretty much plug'n'play. Make sure the gap is correct and that all the dust or water is blown out of the dizzy. I've had that same thing in there for 10 years and it has been dependable and runs so well that I would hesitate to step up to anything more elaborate like the SSI.

Does anyone know if you can fit a Petronix 2 instead of Petronix 1? I do not think the 2s come in 24volt

Pertronix doesn't make anything 24 volts. You can buy the PinzTronix ingition that does work with 24 volts and is modified to fit perfectly into the Pinzgauer engine. The results are great, your Pinz will run much better.

Pertronix DOES offer two 24V models: https://pertronixbrands.com/collections ... voltage/24 , but neither of these are for the Pinz. You need to get a Pinz version from SAV.

Pertronix and SAV sell electronic points, not an ignition module with a complete system. There is a big difference in performance. The conversion kit has a troublesome reputation and utilizes the OEM Bosche distributor.

JimmyC, what's your goal? Are you trying to fix what you have, or move to something new?

If your goal is to keep things stock, but get rid of points in favor of electronic ignition, that's what the Pertronix (note the 'r') kit is all about.

If you want to get the smoothest running engine and get away from the high cost plugs & wires, that's where the full conversion kits come into play. That's where there are kits like the pinztronix or the SSI setups
