TGB13 Snorkel

Post by rdover »

After a little swimming lesson today, I think it would be appropriate
to fit a snorkel to my TGB13. Has anyone any tips or suggestions?

BTW I now realise that a TGB's maximum wading depth is 40" only if
the flexible air intake tube is NOT ripped! Fortunately I did not
hydraulic lock the engine but I will be checking all the oils, carbs,
distributor and electrics for water damage.

Photos on my website tomorrow.

Hello Richard,
Yes i have had the same problem with the ripped hose on mine.
a raised air intake is a mod that will be done on my next TGB!

I've been thinking about this and I can't think of a reasonably direct route that does not involve a pipe running thorugh the engine cover.

I could use a flexible hose that would run under the radiator and out the front to the roof but that would need a wide pipe to compensate for the length. Alternatively run the pipe through holes in the engine cover behind the passenger seat and then out through the roof. That entails some hole cutting and sealing the roof but the damage issue is dealt with by welding/bolting a strong cage to protect the top.

I'm not sure I'll bother, just try to resist the temptation to do stupid stuff!
