Let their be no question the Puch G and the Mercedes G are the SAME vehicle. The Steyr Puch Plant in Graz built the 2 vehicles on the same line......slightly different badging. That is it.

In regards to CA...and Diesel...your cutoff for grey market is 1979. 1980 and EPA testing would be required.

Scroll down to the diesel exemption exceptions on this page: http://www.arb.ca.gov/html/master_faqs/ ... rs_faq.htm

These vehicles are heavily supported, in fact more supported in North America than the Pinzgauer by far.

Cheers,

Scott

The Puch got some love this weekend - added wheel caps for a bit of bling:

I also replaced all the fuel injector return lines since the old ones were dry and cracking and did a complete Liqui Moly Diesel Purge and then replaced both fuel filters. Amazing difference out of a couple of cans and 30 minutes. It runs smoother and quieter, almost all of the diesel smoke is gone and there is a noticeable improvement in performance. Apparently it was long overdue for this treatment . Lots more fun to drive now.

Shows the quality of vehicle your selling!
Most people would do nothing and add nothing to a vehicle they were trying to sell - you however just keep making it better.
I love the Puch wheel caps!

Fuel filters are the biggest factors for a diesel. When I received GG, 55mph was about the max it would do, after filters were replaced, 75 :)

I am surprised no one has bought it yet. :?

It is a fickle market out there... so many nice Pinzes and G's not selling

If this had lockers I would be trading some Haflinger!
How hard would adding lockers be?

I'm not sure what it takes to add lockers. I've looked around on a few Merc forums but haven't come across anything about it.

Vince - any thoughts on this?

I'm not sure what it would take on the axle-tube side of the problem. I haven't seen one without lockers before but I assume the axle casing has the opening. The hardware wouldnt be too much to find. A parts truck would have everything which isn't that many parts to deal with. A call to Sean at Eurotruck might shed light on what's needed. This shows most of the hardware and is similar to what the Pinz has, but uses a different method than the levers of course.

That fuel purge treatment was fun to do, wasn't it? Did your diesel have a dirty tint to it when the cleaner started cycling through?

Oh, do you know what 5-speed this has in it? Is it an overdrive 5th, or a 1:1, which is more common if you can ever find a 5-speed to begin with? Try to get a pic or get the number/model off the badge on the trans. if you can.

Yes, after a couple of minutes the return diesel started to turn darker and after a while was really dirty. That's why I ran the second can through. Overall it runs much smoother and cleaner now.

Not sure on the 5 speed. I have one photo if that helps. I'll try to get underneath this weekend and see if I can find some numbers on it.

Different width and diff ratio on w463 chassis, vs the w460 which is 1979 to 1989.

I know you can get both the master and slave cylinders for a w460 at Euro-Truck Importers, because I just ordered a new slave cylinder from them to replace my rear one. I'm gonna guess you could possibly build a new system for maybe $2,000, but I think the small parts like the levers, actuator rods, etc would be hardest to find.
